Shaping iron and steel has been a way of life for generations of many of those involved with the companies that have grown into what has become Maritime Steel  Foundry Limited.

From making mining picks for the local coal mines to rail spikes and bridges for the infrastructure that binds the nation and continent together to the steel that frames huge buildings, the company has produced materials that matter. Its major projects stand as monuments to technology and progress. A manufacturing company survives and thrives on competitively and efficiently creating new products for changing markets.

From mining shovels to power shovels, the past, present and future products of Maritime Steel Foundry  Limited show the diversity of the capabilities of the company, its communities and the region. Those materials prove an ability to change with the economy and the needs of the various client and customers over thousands of miles in many countries.

The company that has become Maritime Steel Foundry Limited based in New Glasgow, Pictou County, an area that has been recognized as the cradle of Canadian Industry. The area is, in fact, the site of the birthplace of Canadian steel making.

A number of factors have combined to bring the company through the century of production and growth. These include people, their skills and the society within which they have lived, and geographically. As well, these factors can only come into play when the company can change and improve in order to meet the challenges of the times, technology and new markets.
